Cardiac lipid metabolism and cardiomyopathy

With the acceleration of the aging process in China and worldwide, the health of older people is increasingly at the centre of social attention. The improvement of the health and quality of life of older people is an important scientific research proposal.

Cardiac health problems have a major impact on the quality of life of the elderly. Along with the imbalance in metabolic homeostasis in the elderly, the metabolic substrate used by the myocardium for energy supply also changes, leading to metabolic remodelling. In turn, it substantially increases the incidence of dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction and other diseases, and ultimately leads to heart failure. Early diagnosis of myocardial disease has always been a challenge in clinical practice, and the treatment of various cardiomyopathy and heart failure is relatively deficient. Therefore, a deep understanding of the molecular mechanism of myocardial metabolic remodelling is essential for finding early diagnosis and novel treatments for heart failure.

Wang-lab's research centre is myocardial lipid metabolism and cardiomyopathy. We use guinea pigs, mice and other animal models to build models for cardiomyopathies. Using these animal models, we study the mechanism of myocardial metabolic alteration in a variety of cardiomyopathic conditions.
